The Caribbean Leadership Project (CLP), funded by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), and executed by the Canada School of Public Service convened a five-day leadership development workshop in Grenada, from May 18th to 22nd, 2015.
The workshop which focused specifically on Leadership Development Theory and Design catered to the needs of eighteen (18) HR Practitioners, Organisational Development Consultants, Trainers and Facilitators from the public and private sectors, as well as, academia in the Region.
This valuable learning activity exposed participants to the most current and proven leadership development theories and design approaches being used today, including: Adaptive Leadership (Heifetz), Integral Model (Wilber), Appreciative Inquiry (Cooperrider), Adult Learning (Kegan/Tobert) and others. In addition, the workshop has enhanced the capacity of participants to design relevant leadership development programmes for their various stakeholders, in their respective organisations.
The facilitation team was led by CLP’s Special Advisor on Leadership Development, Networks and Capacity Building, Ms. Marjoleine Hulshof and CLP’s Action Research Round Table Specialist, Mr. Peter Stoyko. The other members of the facilitation team included CLP’s Project Director, Ms. Colleen Rossiter, CLP’s Action Learning Advisor, Ms. Lisa James, and Director of Strategic Business Services at the Cave Hill School of Business, Ms. Marjorie Wharton.
This workshop was developed with the intention to increase capacity for delivering sustainable, gender-sensitive leadership development programming in the Caribbean. It is, therefore, expected that by participating in this workshop, a foundational network of practitioners for a regional Community of Practice on leadership development will be established.
The CLP will also be convening another capacity building workshop in St. Kitts from June 15th – 19th, 2015. This workshop will focus on Action Learning and will be led by the President of the World Institute for Action Learning (WIAL), Dr. Michael Marquardt.
