How Can Leaders Achieve Work - Life Balance and Manage Stress?

July 17 2017 - by The Caribbean Leadership Project

As part of the Caribbean Leadership Project’s (CLP) over-arching objective to develop a dynamic, integrated and renewable community of adaptive leaders to transform the public services of the Region, we have produced a series of short videos on leadership. In this video, you will hear from Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of The UWI Open Campus, Dr Luz Longsworth, and Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Mr. Ronald Jackson, on how leaders can achieve work - life balance and manage stress.

What do you think about the tips they shared?

How can you better achieve work-life balance and manage stress?

Great tips.

I find what helps me is to "diversify my life portfolio". That is to  divide my life into different roles. So I have a role to take care of me, take care  and work with my child, work with my siblings, take care and work with my parent, my job, friends  etc. So many things to do so it forces me to develop a plan for each area. With so many parts I also learn the lesson of patience. When there is happiness in one area it helps me to deal with the stress in the other, thus reducing a state of continous and constant stress.  Also I enroll them and utilize the lessons learnt (my partners: self, child, spouse, sibling, parent, coworkers, friends etc) as much as possible when I try to find solutions for each compartment's issues (without disclosure or breach of confidentiality). Leadership training through CLP is helping me find tools and skills to partner and having fun in the process.
