Building Leadership Resilience

April 30 2018 - by The Caribbean Leadership Project

As part of the Caribbean Leadership Project’s (CLP) over-arching objective to develop a dynamic, integrated and renewable community of adaptive leaders to transform the public services of the Region, we have produced a series of videos on leadership. In this video, CLP’s Regional Project Manager, Dr. Lois Parkes speaks with Honorable Avril Gollop, CHB, GCM, BJH, MVO, J.P., Former Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Barbados Civil Service about her leadership journey.

Honorable Avril Gollop, CHB, GCM, BJH, MVO, J.P., was the first female to be appointed Cabinet Secretary in 1996 and in 2000 the first female to become Head of the Civil Service. In addition, in 1989 she became a Member of the Royal Victorian Order in recognition of her work with the visit of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, and in 2002 she received the Gold Crown of Merit of Barbados for her work in the public service. In November 2016, she was named one of the 50 Public Service Legends. She was also awarded The Barbados Jubilee Honour in 2016 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Barbados Independence for her outstanding work in the public service.
